About Steam Machine Guide: How We Work and Where Our Facts Come From
The short answer
Who we are
Steam Machine Guide is an independent website. We are not owned by or connected to Valve. Our goal is simple: help normal people understand the 2026 Steam Machine without needing to speak fluent tech.
How we check our facts
Every spec and price here goes through the same steps:
- Start with the source. We use Valve's own announcements and Steam Store listings first.
- Double check it. We compare against trusted outlets like Ars Technica, Polygon, TechSpot, and PCWorld.
- Keep it current. When a price or detail changes, we update the page and the "last updated" date at the top.

How we keep comparisons fair
Our comparison pages use the same set of rows for every device, so you are always comparing like with like. We also compare using today's real prices, not the launch prices from years ago.
When a device is not really a direct rival (for example, a $650 console next to a $1,049 Steam Machine), we say so clearly and explain why people still cross shop them.
Why you can trust this site
- We focus on one thing. This site is about Steam hardware and living room gaming, nothing else.
- We use real numbers. Our specs come from the makers, not from rumor.
- We show our work. We link to our sources so you can check them yourself.
- We are upfront. We show update dates, we correct mistakes, and we label ads clearly when they are running.
Found a mistake?
Prices and details can change quickly around a launch. If something looks off, compare it against the Steam Store and Valve's official channels, which always have the final word.
